To the innovation of these techniques, Charlie Brooker has ‘screen wiped’ reality Television editing¸ explaining how programs such as The XFactor and MTV dating shows (Date My Mom) have used such techniques, “It was a bit like the leap from typewriters to word processors, suddenly it was a piece of piss to chucking one edit after another, the logical conclusion is the hyper edited bombardment you get in frantic MTV dating shows like ‘Date My Mom’, it also enabled reality TV shows to exist, cause now it’s possible to go through 24 hours of footage and condense it down to 1 hour of highlights in time for transmission the next day”; bringing up the idea about how techniques can obscure the “reality” of the show.
