why do people watch Reality TV? – BIG BROTHER

Looking at Big Brother, a show where it takes ‘ordinary’ people sometimes celebrities (in which it is then named Celebrity Big Brother) and put them in a house which is filled with CCTV cameras that can follow the housemates, having them under constant camera observation to the nation. So what is it that attracts its audience? Is it the appeal of watching the exploitation of ordinary people interacting? The possibility of intimacy revealed? Or is it the enabled audience interaction and competition of the show, where the public get to vote through a telephone system and make a decision on who they want to evict; in turn making Emdemol (A transnational entertainment group) an even bigger profit on their behalf though the revenues from the phone lines, ‘If television was once about delivering audiences to advertisers, it may soon be about delivering callers to phone lines’ (Jon Dovey) – So true Dovey. So true
